Birch & Stone: An Art Exhibit Rooted In Nature

As residents of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan we’re lucky to be surrounded by natural elements. For some of us it’s the changing shoreline that offers inspiration. For others, it’s the stillness of the north woods. For artists Christine Lenzen and Pasqua Warstler it’s the smaller things. It’s the ornate patterns found on the trees. It’s the perfectly, imperfect stones that line the beach. It’s the small segments of driftwood that many of us take for granted.

These little pieces of nature are what have inspired the newest featured exhibit at The Gallery in downtown Marquette, Michigan. Join us to experience Birch & Stone a collaborative exhibit curated by Christine Saari that features birch photographs by Lenzen and stone sculptures by Warstler.

– ABOUT THE ARISTS –

Christine Lenzen: Born in the twin cities, Christine is a visual artist that uses photography, sculpture, and collage to explore the cultural implications of the photograph. She received her BFA from the University of Minnesota and her MFA from the University of Notre Dame in May 2012. Now, as an Associate Professor of Photography, she enjoys sharing her passion of the arts with students at Northern Michigan University. Her art has been featured in across the United States, as well as in galleries overseas.

Pasqua Warstler: Warstler earned her BFA rom Aquinas College which was her gateway into a dynamic career in the arts. As former Executive Director of the Bonifas Art Center (BAC) in Escanaba, Pasqua has a deep appreciation for the Upper Peninsula art community. Since her retirement in 2019 she has been enjoying time reconnecting with friends and family, enjoying time outside, and returning to her studio to dedicate more time to her personal art projects.
